Target Audience

This activity is specifically designed for clinicians, healthcare providers, and AMR stewards to address AMR at the hospital.

Learning Objectives

At the end of the module, learners should be able to:

  • Identify and describe the clinical relevance, typical sources of common uropathogens with an emphasis on their role in uncomplicated and complicated UTIs.

  • Explain the rationale for empiric versus targeted antimicrobial therapy in the management of UTIs, while considering tissue distribution and drug concentration in the urinary tract and renal dosing.

  • Analyze mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in uropathogens and how these influence the selection of effective antibiotic therapy.

  • Identify antimicrobial stewardship behaviours that mitigate unnecessary antimicrobial use in treating UTIs.
