  • Apply CDC definitions to real cases for accurate diagnosis

  • Understand surgical wound classification and when prophylaxis is appropriate

  • Choose appropriate empiric and targeted antimicrobial therapy

  • Integrate principles of antimicrobial stewardship into surgical care
