AMLS Module 7: Bloodstream Infections
Module 7 of our AMR Life Support Course (AMLS). This module is an interactive lecture on bloodstream infections (BSI).
Target Audience
This activity is specifically designed for clinicians, healthcare providers, and AMR stewards to address AMR at the hospital.
Learning Objectives
At the end of the module, learners should be able to:

Recognize the clinical presentation and major risk factors associated with community-acquired and hospital-acquired bloodstream infections.

Apply best practices for obtaining and interpreting blood cultures in patients with suspected bloodstream infection.

Use clinical context, geography, and simple microbiologic tests to narrow the differential diagnosis and guide management of bloodstream infections.

Identify the principles of diagnosis and management for melioidosis, catheter-related bloodstream infection (CRBSI), and candidemia.

Explain the importance of source control and pathogen-specific therapy in achieving successful outcomes for bloodstream infections.
